Ferial Confine – Meiosis [CD]
Couldn't load pickup availability
"Ferial Confine is an early Andrew Chalk experimental, somewhat noise-based project. Meiosis was originally released as a cassette on Broken Flag in 1985. You can certainly hear the influence of The New Blockaders and, to some extent, Whitehouse (no shouting, though), but Meiosis is a fine example of what was 'in the air' for a small amount of people scattered around the world at the time. I think the thing that keeps a lot of this music so relevant is the purity and uncompromising nature of the sounds. Without computer technology, this sort of sound barrage was difficult and time-consuming to accomplish. As with a lot of recordings in those heady days, the effort that was put in led to a very detailed refusal of what passed for music (and life in general) at the time. The two part title track is particularly harrowing, but some of the other nine pieces display peeks of the melancholy beauty Andrew is known for today."
