"Just to archive the oral traditions which are slowly fading away this record contains 14 Birahâ songs. All songs were recorded by Michael Lewis during a field trip to Surinam in 1987-1988, funded by Leiden University. Except song 06A which he recorded in The Hague.
Birahâ is the hollering (cast) song of North Indian cowherds who migrated around 1900 to Surinam and continued the oral tradition. Comes in an embossed cover with 3 postcards and inlay.
